We are working on setting our 2025 Schedule. Please check back after April 15th, 2025 for specific
information on ticket prices, and ordering information.
We have started our 2025 fundraising campaign. Organizations like ours depend upon our visitors to come and ride the train, and our patrons to help support operations with donations. Please consider becoming a patron with a tax-deductible donation to the Smoky Hill Railway and Historical Society, Inc. (the parent of the Belton, Grandview and Kansas City Railroad). You can donate with the Paypal button below, or a check sent by mail to: Belton, Grandview and Kansas City Railroad, Attn: Donation, 502 E. Walnut Street, Belton, MO 64012.
Come, take a step back in time to the first half of the last century and ride a train like your grandparents may have ridden. Board our 1920's era passenger coach, or our open-air excursion car and take a ride behind our 1950's Diesel locomotive through Old Towne Belton, Missouri, and the surrounding area.
While you're waiting for the train, walk around our yard and look at our display equipment, freight cars, Club Car, instruction car, maintenance-of-way equipment, and two static display steam locomotives. Visit our baggage car gift shop, talk to the train crew, and even visit the locomotive. Finish off your trip with a visit to the shops of Main Street Belton.
While you're enjoying your train ride with us, you might also learn about the History of our Line.
The Belton, Grandview and Kansas City Railroad Co. is a short line passenger railroad and demonstration museum in Belton, Missouri, just south on I-49 (US-71 Hwy.) from the Kansas City Metro I-435 loop. The BG&KC offers excursions on our line running south from Belton on a 5 mile, 45 minute round trip. We are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving rail travel and railroading history.
Tickets can be purchased in advance, on-line (click on this text). The depot and ticket office opens approximately one hour prior to departure. All tickets are sold on a first come first served basis. Our passenger coach holds 60 passengers. If all seats sell out and there are enough passengers still wishing to ride the train, extra departures will be added. The train for our Regular Departures is neither heated nor air conditioned; we suggest you dress for the weather on the day of your visit.
Locomotive Rides
Due to the lingering risk of COVID-19, we are not allowing Cab Rides at this time for the protection of our volunteers.
Special Needs
While we do our best to accommodate all of our guests, we are unable to accommodate persons in wheelchairs or those with very limited mobility. If you have any questions about the accessibility of our facilities, please call the depot at (816) 331-0630 or email us at
